01

A decision platform should not hide its source

DegreeSignal is designed for questions about degrees, programmes, skills, careers and study locations, but it deliberately avoids becoming an opaque ranking or admissions oracle. A conclusion should retain its source, statistical grain, reference period, transformation and uncertainty.

That changes the product surface. The useful output is not only a number; it is a result package that lets a reader see what was observed and what still needs judgement.

02

Different sources deserve different semantics

The platform contains bounded adapters and explorers for sources such as CRICOS, World Bank and Crossref. Each source has its own authority, missingness and identity rules, so the system keeps those meanings separate instead of forcing every record into one universal schema.

A Crossref record can provide bibliographic context without becoming a canonical academic-quality judgement. A live table can be useful without becoming a complete catalogue claim.

03

Distributed does not mean automatically true

Signed manifests, SHA-256 identities and content-addressed checkpoints make it possible to reproduce and verify the bytes and transformations used by a result. They do not turn a source record into an unquestionable fact, and peer agreement cannot promote a factual claim on its own.

The architecture therefore keeps validation, licensing, privacy and source authority in the same design conversation as transport and storage.

04

Show what works today—and what does not

The project already has working protocol, browser, Worker and source-explorer components. The wider distributed task network, complete catalogue and open-world discovery are still roadmap or qualification work.

Saying that plainly prevents the deployed parts from being mistaken for a finished version of the much larger research programme.

Limite de l'évidence publique

Bounded source-specific implementations and recorded deployments do not prove full catalogue coverage, universal ranking accuracy, an open-world peer network or factual truth from hashes, signatures or peer majority.
